Digital EHC – Export Health Certificates
Under the Border Target Operating Model (BTOM), EXPORT HEALTH CERTIFICATES (EHC) are required for THE IMPORT of medium risk animal or plant-based products to protect the biosecurity of the UK.
WHEN
From 31 January 2024
Health certification applies for imports of medium risk animal products, plants, plant products and high-risk food and feed of non-animal origin from the EU.
Documentary checks will be undertaken by DEFRA on a randomly selected sample of consignments, routing through all UK ports and determined by the Border Control Post (BCP) and feedback will be provided, but goods will not be subject to routine holds at the border.
From 30 April 2024
If a document, ID or physical check identifies that an EHC has not been provided or contains errors, the consignment can be held and may be subject to formal enforcement action.
RISKS
- YOUR CONSIGNMENT may be HELD and DELAYED to the extent that goods have to be wasted
- REPUTATIONAL RISK may result in more focused checks at border control points
- YOUR CONSIGNMENT could be REJECTED and DESTROYED without COMPENSATION
NON-COMPLIANCE includes the ABSENCE of a certificate when one is required, ERRORS within a certificate, or FINANCIAL MIS-STATEMENT.
